With 2014 seeing the release of Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros, and the launch of Amiibos, analysts are projecting Nintendo to make a tidy profit this year, according to a Bloomberg report. Any profit would be an improvement on 2013’s net loss of 23.2 billion yen ($193 million), and a welcome turnaround for the company which has struggled since the decline of the original Wii. With the success of multiple flagship titles, analysts are projecting a healthy profit, with some of the most recent stating profits could triple to 36.8 billion yen ($303 million). Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has maintained over the past year Nintendo’s commitment to its consoles, neglecting shareholders’ and analysts’ advice to port its popular games to mobile devices. Nintendo projects its Amiibos, the interactive figurines based on video game characters, will generate $1 billion in sales in just the U.S., as well as doing well internationally. Adopting a similar concept to Activision’s incredibly successful Skylanders series, Amiibos are physical figurines that you can transport into your games as AI companions. One Amiibo even came close to winning a Smash Bros tournament a few weeks ago.
